This month's Box of the Month is Reebok CrossFit Tyneside up in Newcastle. We caught up with Jordan Wallace to find out what makes his box so awesome...

What's the story behind Reebok CrossFit Tyneside?

We opened back in 2010. I came into the sport from a running background, where I primarily trained on my own without any conversation or community.

I also worked in the commercial gym sector at the time, and when I found the sport I realised that there was a better way to train people, in a shorter space of time in a much better environment.

What do you think makes your box so special?

We have a great team! Our coaches, headed up by Paul Warrior, the gym's head coach, are all enthusiastic members of our community. They all follow our class program - so they interact with our amazing members on a daily basis and share their suffering!

We are a small gym, only 2500q ft yet we have managed to produce some great athletes and a fantastic community of members.

What have been the highlights since you opened?

Getting a team to regionals 2 years in a row (2014/15).

What's your coaching philosophy?

Make sure every member leaves the class in a better mood than they arrived. Be encouraging and supportive to our members, both in and and out of the classes and get as much out of that hour for them as possible!

What are your members like?

Great. We have a huge variety or members in the box, from students to doctors to solicitors. Everyone brings something unique and special to our box. Your gym is only as good as your members!

What happens in a typical day/class?

A typical class is hard to describe due to the nature of the sport it's varied programming but each class follows a similar format:

  • General warm up
  • Specific warm up
  • Skill work or strength work
  • Workout or cash out

And finally, what does the future hold for Reebok CrossFit Tyneside?

Our main goal is to keep progressing our coaches knowledge and expertise to improve our members experience with us. Hopefully we can also secure a larger venue soon and expand the RCFT family!

Jordan will be joining the rest of team UK in regionals at the end of May. Make sure you check him out, along with the rest of the individual athletes and teams! #TeamUK
