CrossFit Central Lancaster
This month's Box of the Month is CrossFit Central Lancaster, as nominated by one of their members:
"CrossFit Central Lancaster embodies everything that is great about CrossFit. Brilliant coaches, great programming of skill & WODs and a fantastic community."
To find out more about the box, we caught up with the owner, Danny Wisniewski.
What's the story behind your box? Why did you decide to open?
It is a long story but, in short, I discovered the sport in 2011 and the nearest box was either CrossFit Carlisle or CrossFit 3D in Manchester.
After my first session at CrossFit Carlisle, I was hooked, and so began a twice weekly journey to Carlisle or Manchester, both an hour away from where I lived.
I was unhappy in my place of work and needed a new outlook and so came the big question from my wife: "why don't we open our own?"
After much thought on the topic, my wife and I found a unit, put together a plan and after much hard work, sacrifice, determination, blood, sweat and tears, CrossFit Central Lancaster was born.
Here we are 4 years later, in a bigger box, better and stronger than ever.
What makes your box so special today?
Simply put, the community. We would be nothing but a unit full of equipment without it. It is what drives us forward. We have an awesome bunch of people, each bringing something special to the box.
What have been the highlights since you opened?
There are so many, it really is so hard to choose. From when a member gets their first toes to bar or muscle up, to watching members at regionals. We are just so lucky to be able to do what we love as a job so its hard to say what is the best part!
What's your coaching philosophy?
Constant and never ending improvement. From tiny improvements to huge achievements. To make sure that each member continues to be a better version of themselves, for themselves.
What are your members like?
Awesome. We have such a broad spectrum of people, all different ages, from all walks of life and I can honestly say they are an amazing and supportive community.
What happens in a typical day/class?
Coffee, chats, workouts, fun, laughs, PB's, pain, hard work, new beginnings, more coffee, more workouts, people getting better!
What does the future hold? Where do you see your box in 5/10 years time?
We hope to keep growing and keep getting better.
To see more awesome people training with us at CFCL and show everyone what an awesome place it is to train, with a fantastic community of people.
