CrossFit Hexis
You might remember Kitbox ambassador Paul Mellors from our ambassador post earlier in the year. This month, we're getting to know a bit more about his box - CrossFit Hexis - in February's second Box of the Month feature.
KITBOX: What's the story behind CrossFit Hexis? Why did you decide to open the box?
Paul: Well, for years both myself and Oli (co-owner) discussed a pipe dream of opening our own box. What it would be like, what we would do, how it would look? After personal training for many years, we finally had the opportunity to fulfil that ambition.
What do you think makes your box so special?
Team Hexis -without a doubt in my mind. There isn't a day that goes by in which I don't have to pinch myself, to remind myself it's real! When new people come, the first thing they mention is how friendly and welcoming EVERYONE is.
What have been the highlights since you opened?
Hard to say.. Not including social events (which are INCREDIBLE by the way!) -when everyone cheered me on during the Battle of the Beasts competition. I expected a couple of people to come, but nearly 20 of our members ended up coming. With the rest of them watching online... It filled me with an immense sense of pride!
What's your coaching philosophy?
As with most boxes, we want our members to reach their potential. No matter what the goal may be.
We always put their health, wellbeing and safety first in everything we do. Programming, advice, coaching: everything.
Apart from that, we make sure all aspects of what makes anathlete are covered across the cycle: strength, endurance, skills, etc. We provide them with with perfect base to achieve that potential.
How would you describe your members?
As I've already mentioned, they are the best group of people I have ever met in my life. Supportive, friendly, motivational, inspiring, absolutely insane and genuine.. Every one of them.
What happens in a typical day/class at CrossFit Hexis?
Always someone who gets confused at what's on the board. Then someone who cries that they can't do a movement. There's always a couple of them who push off each other (that includes the coaches!). Loads of high fives, cheers, post-WOD banter and sweat angels.
What does the future hold? Where do you see the box in 5 years' time?
Who knows.. More than likely exactly the same, just a lot more of us!
Anything else you'd like to mention before we go?
I would like to say thank you to all our members.. You guys make Hexis what it is.
I would also like to say thank you to Kitbox for selecting our box as 'Box of the Month'. It means so much to us all and the members deserve it!
