This weekend, we're descending on Madrid to watch the best of Team UK compete at this year's Meridian regional. Like last year, the weekend will feature the top 80 individuals (40 men and 40 women) and 30 teams from Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The weekend is a huge step up from the Open. It will be a gruelling test of fitness, strength, gymnastic skills and mindset. The competition gets tougher each year, with many comparing this year's events to previous Games workouts.

At the end of the weekend, the top five from each category will go through to compete at the CrossFit Games this summer.

Whether you're watching the action in Madrid, or from the comfort of your box, here's everything you need to know:

Day One - Friday 27th May 2016

The competition kicks off with the first three team events, followed by the individual events:

Team Event 1

The first event kicks off at 09:00am CET, which translates to 8am UK time.

In this workout, the full team will compete in three pairs. Starting with two females, two males, and finishing with the mixed pair.

Each pair must complete:

  • 60 strict handstand push-ups,
  • 20 synchronised bar muscle-ups,
  • Row (30 cals each for the men, 20 for the women),
  • Bike (30 cals each for the men, 20 for the women),
  • 60 power cleans.

On the handstand push-ups, the athletes much each compete alternating rounds of 15 reps, 10 reps, and 5 reps. Once they've been completed, the first pair will move on to the bar muscle-ups, and the second pair will begin the handstand push-ups.

They'll continue through the workout, until the final pair have finished the power cleans. These will be 135lbs (61.2kg) for the men, and 95 lbs (43kg) for the women.

This workout caused some controversy when it was first announced, as it all hinges on the athletes' ability to perform strict handstand push-ups. Should be an interesting one to watch!

The time cap for this event is 20 minutes.

Team Event 2

Team event two starts at 9:30am UK time.

This workout is a snatch ladder, with the ascending weight and decreasing reps - to be completed by the three male team members:

  • Station One: each athlete completes 5 snatches at 185 lbs (83.9kg),
  • Station Two: each athlete completes 4 snatches at 205 lbs (93kg),
  • Station Three: each athlete completes 3 snatches at 225 lbs (102kg),
  • Station Four: each athlete completes 2 snatches at 245 lbs (111kg),
  • Station Five: each athlete completes 1 snatch at 265 lbs (120kg).

If an athlete doesn't progress past one of the stations, they receive points for their completed lifts, and remaining team members may continue without them.

The score is the total weight lifted, in pounds. If the team complete the workout within the 10 minute time cap, their time will be used as a tiebreak.

Team Event 3

The third team event is exactly the same as the second event, with the weights amended for the female team members as follows:

  • Station One: each athlete completes 5 snatches at 135 lbs (61.2kg),
  • Station Two: each athlete completes 4 snatches at 145 lbs (65.8kg),
  • Station Three: each athlete completes 3 snatches at 155 lbs (70.3kg),
  • Station Four: each athlete completes 2 snatches at 165 lbs (74.8kg),
  • Station Five: each athlete completes 1 snatch at 175 lbs (79.4kg).

The women's event will take place after the men's.

Individual Event 1

The individual events are scheduled to begin at 12:10pm in Madrid, which is 11:10am in the UK. The men are up at 12:15pm UK time.

In this workout, the athletes must complete the following:

  • 10 squat snatches at 185 lbs (83.9kg) for the men, and 135 lbs (61.2kg) for the women. These must be completed by 2:00.
  • 8 squat snatches at 205 lbs (93kg) for the men, and 145 lbs (65.8kg) for the women. These must be completed by 4:00.
  • 6 squat snatches at 225 lbs (102kg) for the men, and 155 lbs (70.3kg) for the women. These must be completed by 6:00.
  • 4 squat snatches at 245 lbs (111kg) for the men, and 165 lbs (74.8kg) for the women. These must be completed by 8:00.
  • 2 squat snatches at 265 lbs (120kg) for the men, and 175 lbs (79.4kg) for the women. These must be completed by 11:00.

The score for the event will be the total time it takes them to complete all the required lifts. For each rep not completed, they will receive a penalty.

Individual Event 2

At 1:25pm UK time, it's time for the second individual event - and the final workout of the first day.

In this workout, athletes will be completing "Regional Nate" - putting their gymnastics to the test!

For time, they will have to complete 10 rounds of the following:

  • 4 strict muscle-ups
  • 7 strict handstand push-ups
  • 12 kettlebell snatches

The time cap for the workout is 20 minutes. The men will be snatching with a 70 lb kettlebell (31.8kg) and the women with 53 lbs (24kg).

The minimum work requirement for this is one full round. What does this mean? If they can't complete a full round, they're out.
