The advent calendars have been cracked open. You can't visit relatives without eating your body weight in mince pies. It's official...

The Christmas party season has arrived. Yay!

For some of us, this threatens to disrupt everything we've worked so hard on throughout the year. To make sure this doesn't happen, here are our rules to help you survive the festive party season:

Rule #1: Don't Stop Training

December's always a busy month. It can be tempting to skip your planned training sessions, but try not to. Of course, Christmas shopping and parties take priority, but you should make time for the gym too.

Late nights, lots of sugar and excess alcohol will all leave you feeling lethargic. Sticking to a regular training regime will energise you, and give you some normality among the chaos.

Be realistic about when you're going to be able to get to the box - then make a plan, and stick to it.

If you can't make it as often as you'd like, follow us on Twitter. We'll be sharing a daily #OutsideTheBox WOD, which you can do at home with minimal equipment.

Rule #2: Take Your Supplements

If you don't fall off the wagon with your nutrition over Christmas, you're doing it wrong.

Trying to resist is futile - and why would you? If you can't enjoy some mulled cider and Christmas cake, what's the point?!

When you disrupt your nutrition habits, it's even more important to take your supplements. You'll amplify any nutritional deficiencies, so make sure you give your body what it needs to recover.

Some supplements, such as magnesium and probiotics, also help with detoxification. You should think about including these in your daily routine, if you don't already.

Rule #3: Get Some Rest

If you're lucky enough to get some downtime over the festive period, make the most of it!

If you're always on the go, it's a good time to relax, recharge, and spend some time on your recovery.

Do you need to spend more time on your mobility? Use your time off to work on any niggles, so you can attack your new year training goals in full force.

Rule #4: Eat the Mince Pies

How many times have you had good intentions for the festive season, only to "fail" on the 2nd December?

If you try to resist all the treats thrown your way over the next few weeks, it's more likely to end in an almighty binge.

Relaxing your diet a little this Christmas isn't going to do much long-term damage. Just stay mindful, and make sure you get plenty of turkey, vegetables and water too.

It sounds like such a clicé, but it really is all about balance.

Besides, who wants to lose weight during winter anyway? Just think of the gainz.

Rule #5: Have Fun!

That brings us onto the final, most important rule: ENJOY YOURSELF!

Don't stress too much if you miss a session, stray from your macros, or have too many late nights.

Before you know it, January will be here - and it will be time to smash your New Year's goals.
