The competition scene is growing at a crazy rate in the UK, and there's now an event out there for everyone - regardless of ability, strength, or skill.

Do you want to enter a competition this year, but have no idea where to start? We've put together a guide to the best events out there. Here are the first five:

The Athlete Games

Location: ExCel Arena, London

Date: Fri 29th - Sat 30th January

Event Type: Individual

Ability Rating: Elite

It's now too late to enter this year's Athlete Games as a competitor - but it's still an event you don't want to miss!

It's been one of the biggest events in the UK for a while now, and this year is unlikely to disappoint! It's presented by Xendurance, and has moved to one of London's best venues - the ExCel Arena.

New to the event this year is the afterparty, hosted by Games athlete Josh Bridges. Tickets for this are limited - make sure you get some before they sell out!

Wild West Winter Fusion

Location: Oxstalls Tennis Centre, Gloucester

Date: Sat 24th September

Event Type: Pairs

Ability Rating: Open to All - No Qualifiers

Fusion is the latest event to come from the team at Wild West Fitness. It's a pairs competition, with three categories: male, female and mixed.

It's a single day event, with four WODs to complete in total. If you've never competed before, this could be a good one to try!

Registration is open now - get your tickets here. The Wild West events tend to be sellouts, so if you want to take part, it's best to get in there quick!

The team behind these events aim to create a 'festival' atmosphere. If you're not ready to compete yet, these are some of the best events to attend from a spectator's point of view.

More events for your calendar:

  • Wild West Winter Slam - 6th-7th February,
  • Wild West 2016 - 8th-10th July.

The Rainhill Trails

Location: Sports City, Manchester

Event Type: Individual

Ability Rating: All Abilities - from Beginner to Elite

The Rainhill Trials, an event organised by the team at TRAIN, is popular with the whole community. It's one of the only events designed especially for competitors of varying abilties.

Before the event, you'll need to submit scores to a variety of 'seeding' workouts. You'll then be assigned one of the following categories, according to your scores:

  • Wood (Beginner),
  • Rastrick (Intermediate),
  • Kennedy (Advanced),
  • Rocket (Elite).

This is a popular event, with a ballot entry system. Keep your eyes peeled on Facebook to find out when it re-opens.

Battle of the Boxes

Location: Charter Hall, Colchester

Who's the fittest box in Europe? Battle of the Boxes is an event designed to find out.

It's a team event, with five athletes per team - 3 males and 2 females. Boxes will be put through their paces during the online qualifiers in February - with only the best invited to take part in the finals this may.
