How to Cure Your Hangover
Christmas party this weekend? If you're likely to overdo it on the mulled wine, keep this article handy to keep the hangover gremlins at bay!
Drink Some Water
At the risk of sounding like your Mum, drink some water!
Dehydration is your hangover's best friend - so get a head start by drinking plenty before you hit the sack. Bonus points if you remember to drink some while you're out!
Take Your Supplements
You know those supplements you take to boost your WOD performance? They might be exactly what you need to prevent a nasty hangover, too.
Magnesium
Magnesium is thought to be one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the UK. Studies suggest it could affect anywhere between 10-70% of the population.
When you drink, the alcohol depletes levels of magnesium within the body even further.
In addition to this, magnesium helps break down, and get rid of, alcohol from the body. To support your liver, and reduce hangover symptoms, take a magnesium supplement before drinking.
Vitamin C
Alcohol depletes your body of Vitamin C, too. This is important for two reasons:
- It works with the magnesium to support your liver in removing alcohol from your system,
- It acts as an anti-oxidant, reducing oxidative stress in your liver.
To get the most from this nutrient, you can either take a supplement before you start drinking - or eat plenty of food rich in Vitamin C.
Probiotics
It's not just your liver you need to think about when you over-indulge. Drinking puts a huge strain on your gut, too.
If your stomach tends to feel dodgy the morning after drinking, have some probiotics as soon as you wake up.

Eat a Good Breakfast
Bacon sandwiches and big greasy fry-ups are awesome, but will they get rid of your hangover? Probably not.
Rehydration is key, so avoid the coffee (which will dehydrate you even more), until you've got some water down your neck. Coconut water is a good idea too, as it will replenish lost electrolytes as well as hydrating.
When you're ready to eat, here are some of the best foods to try:
- Bananas,
- Eggs,
- Oats,
- Tomatoes,
- Spinach.
Why not blend bananas, eggs, oats and almond milk for some tasty, hangover-busting pancakes?
Get Outside
We know the temptation to waste away on the sofa with your duvet, a pizza and Netflix is strong - but resist! Fresh air is your friend.
If you can face it, go for a run or do a short, light WOD. As long as you're well hydrated and you've eaten, the endorphins released by your body when you exercise should make you feel awesome.
Take it easy though... If you're still feeling the effects, ramping up the intensity could leave you feeling even worse.
